Snacks for a Stronger Immune System

While we can’t completely redo our immune system overnight, folks, we can take some steps to help it become stronger. One way to do this is via diet as vitamins and minerals play a prominent role in supporting your immune system. To give yours a little extra boost, try some of the simple immune-boosting snacks below!

The super sweet potato

Just one medium-sized sweet potato contains a large dose of vitamin A and C alongside beta carotene. These spuds are also very versatile as they can be baked into fries, served in a salad or even made into a pie. One simple way to enjoy a sweet potato is by microwaving it for eight minutes in a wet paper towel. Split the potato with a knife and then add seed, peanut or almond butter. If you want a little extra flavor, you can even top it off with a bit of honey or cinnamon.

The big banana

Bananas are well-known as a source of potassium, but they have a lot of vitamin C and other vitamins, too. One fun way to eat bananas is by using them to replace your favorite but sugary and fat-filled ice cream bar. Get some popsicle sticks and insert one into the bottom of each peeled banana you plan to make. Melt dark chocolate in your microwave for two to three minutes and dip a banana into the chocolate. Lay them on a parchment paper as you work, and once you are done, pop them into a freezer-safe dish and store them in your freezer. They will freeze quickly and may be ready to eat in as little as an hour.

The yogurt-spinach combo for the win

Spinach is a great source of a vitamin C and other minerals and vitamins. Yogurt contains probiotics that are beneficial for your gut, which supports your immune system, so combing yogurt and spinach is a win-win. Eating raw spinach packs the greatest nutritional punch, but you can still reap some benefits from consuming it cooked if raw just isn’t for you. One simple dip, for example, calls for you to saute spinach with olive oil in a pan and let it cook down. Combine it with plain Greek yogurt and the spices of your choice, and you’ve got a solid dip. Pair with pita, carrots or another healthy side for an immune-boosting snack!
